GreenTown Chicago was held at the Film Row Cinema at Columbia College in downtown Chicago, and feature unique, innovative commentary and discussion regarding sustainability and its interaction with today’s society. These individuals included:

  • Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Vice Chair, Riverkeeper

    A resolute defender of the environment, Kennedy was named one of TIME magazine's "Heroes for the Planet" for his success helping Riverkeeper lead the fight to restore the Hudson River. The group's achievement helped spawn more than 130 Waterkeeper organizations across the globe. Mr. Kennedy serves as Vice Chair and Chief Prosecuting Attorney for Riverkeeper and Chairman of Waterkeeper Alliance. He is also a Clinical Professor and Supervising Attorney at a Pace University School of Law’s Environmental Litigation Clinic, Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, and is co-host of Ring of Fire on Air America Radio. Earlier in his career he served as Assistant District Attorney in New York City.

  • Bob Dixson, Mayor, Greensburg, Kansas

Bob Dixson took the office of Mayor of Greensburg in May 2008. At GreenTown, Mayor Dixson will detail his efforts to sustainably transform the city of Greensburg, Kansas, a town destroyed by a F-5 tornado in May 2007. Since then, the town has resolved to rebuild the city using sustainable initiatives. These initiatives include reducing the city's carbon footprint through renewable energy and alternative means of transportation, recreating a vital downtown and emphasizing walkability, greening buildings through stricter codes and providing economic and social equality for its citizens

  • Dean Kubani, Environmental Programs Division Manager, City of Santa Monica

    As Manager of the City of Santa Monica's Environmental Programs Division, Dean Kubani oversees all of the City's efforts related to water and energy efficiency, urban runoff, green building, hazardous materials and sustainability. Since 1994, Kubani has directed the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of the Santa Monica Sustainable City Program. He lectures on sustainability at universities throughout the country and has presented information about Santa Monica's programs at state, national and international conferences.
